Hillary Clinton’s Foundation Receives Subpoena

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that the Clinton Foundation received a subpoena from the State Department’s Inspector General’s office, seeking “documents about the charity’s projects that may have required approval from the federal government during Hillary Clinton’s term as secretary of state,” and information on Huma Abedin, a Clinton aide.

Abedine was previously Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff at the State Department and now plays the role of a top official of her campaign; she ran into trouble with the Inspector General last year when she was audited for being overpaid by 10,000 dollars for unused leave time while serving Clinton.

The Washington Post notes that it is unknown if the Inspector General was looking into Clinton herself, but a foundation representative confirmed that they received a subpoena, but claimed that Bill and Hillary Clinton were not the focus of the investigation.

Spokesman for Clinton’s campaign, Brian Fallon, claims that the Inspector General was conducting “fishing expeditions”. He added that “questions need to be asked about the independence of that office.”

Her use of a private email server had also led to a separate investigation by the Inspector General.

Hillary Clinton has based much of her campaign on her leadership experience as Secretary of State while in charge of the State Department- it seems ironic that she has run into so much trouble with it.
